Sutra Neti (Rubber Catheter Nasal Cleansing)

Ancient Yogic Kriya for Nasal Purification

Sutra Neti is one of the six classical cleansing techniques (Shatkarma) in Hatha Yoga. It is a powerful practice for cleansing the nasal passages and sinus cavities using a soft rubber catheter (sutra) instead of the traditional cotton thread.

🧴 What is Used?

  • A sterile, medical-grade rubber catheter (usually size 4 to 6 for adults)

  • Clean warm water or saline solution for lubrication

🌿 Benefits of Sutra Neti

  • Reduces allergies, sinusitis, and congestion

  • Enhances the effects of Pranayama and meditation

  • Stimulates nerves and energizes the brain

  • Helpful in snoring, asthma, and ENT-related issues

⚠️ Precautions

  • Practice under expert guidance if you're a beginner

  • Always use a clean, soft, rounded-tip rubber catheter

  • Avoid if you have a cold, nosebleeds, or nasal injuries

  • Maintain hygiene—clean the catheter before and after use

🧘‍♀️ How to Practice Sutra Neti (Basic Steps)

  1. Lubricate the rubber catheter with warm saline or ghee.

  2. Gently insert through one nostril, guiding slowly toward the throat.

  3. When the catheter reaches the throat, bring it out through the mouth using two fingers.

  4. Hold both ends (nostril and mouth) and gently move back and forth a few times.

  5. Remove, clean, and repeat on the other side if needed.
